When will my first (Halifax) mortgage payment be?

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping to get some sense please? I am due to complete on the 24th September so when will my first payment be? My mortgage offer doesn't say and I've called the Halifax and they cant say. Was told to call them a day after completion :-/ - panicking if it's 1st October - 7 days later!! (as the first payment is obviously higher than normal) as we have our other bills/rent to pay end of september too!!! Our regular repayment date we chose was the 1st.

Any help would really help!!

Thanks :-)

Its unlikely to be the 1st as its very unlikely there will be enough time to set up the DD - typically 7-10 working days.
I have neve rused halifax so not sure on their process but its usually the first of the following month - november in this instance.

Call halifax and ask generically how long it takes to set up the DD if its not set up in time for the 1st when would it usually be set up for.

  • When I bought my house we completed the last week of the month (29th) and the first direct debit went out on the 10th of the following month....I don't think we asked for the DD to come out on the 10th, that was just when it was set up. I'm pretty sure we had a letter just after completion advising that that was when the first payment would go out and saying that if we wanted to change it to another day we could do so for future payments.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • We completed on the 11th of the month and ours came out on the 1st, browneyedbazzi is right they sent us a letter saying when it will come out about a week after completion, well in advance of the payment

I love Halifax - use them for everything. It will be the month after the end of the payment month you move (ie if you move 24th September and have requested DDs for 1st of the month, first payment will be November 1st. Shouldn't be a lot higher as it's only a week over a full month).

If i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here :p
  • In the little booklet that came with your mortgage offer it goes into detail about when the first payment will be.

I completed on the 28th Aug (with a different bank) and had my mortgage payment date set for 2nd of each month.

So mortgage company took first payment on 17th Sept to "catch up" with August and then my normal regular monthly payment will be taken on 1st October.

Ring Halifax after completion and they'll explain what they are going to do.

My bank also sent me a letter a week after completion explaining when they were going to take the first and second payments ...

Don't panic - it takes time to set up DDs and I think banks take a sensible approach and let their customers know in advance how much the first payment will be as it is often more!
