Just don't make the mistake of going for an electric system because it is cheap to install. I know plenty of folk who have made this mistake and either pay a heavy price for the running cost or don't bother using it for the same reason £££££.

  • I agree with above. For a whole house or floor solution, a wet system is the best solution.

Unfortunately retro fitting a wet system into an existing property does not come cheap; especially if it is a property with suspended wood floors.

Firstly, I would ask, why you want under-floor heating?

There are many advantages and disadvantages to this type of system. You should be fully understanding of these before you make the jump. Under-floor heating is used in an entirely different way from traditional heating systems. So please know what to expect or you may find yourself frustrated/disappointed with the finished product.

    Thanks,

The reason is because the kitchen is being renovated, and due to the age of the property there isn't any available wall space to have radiators without the lose of cupboards. And we can't afford to minimise the number of cupboards as there isn't much space anyway. Hence a wet underfloor is the best option.

The kitchen is opened up into the dinning, the dinning will have a small log burner. SO the Underfloor and the fire are a good combination.

    many thanks

The only thing that you mustn't skimp on is the pipe. Everything surface is replaceable. I always wondered if there are any cowboys out there putting in garden hoses from B&Q.

I have done the kitchen with UFH like it was a radiator.
You don't really need a manifold (with a pump) for just a kitchen, but you should have at least a valve to adjust the flow for balancing. I have a wall mounted TRV, but it's not really necessary. The length of the pipe creates a lot of resistance, so even though it's the first "radiator" that gets the boiler output, the water does not all loop back to the boiler return straightaway, and not flow to the rest of the house: but if it did, you need the valve to restrict the flow.

The You should not have UFH under kitchen units, as food (non-dry) can spoil. You MUST NOT have UFH under the freezer.

I do have a pumped manifold for the UFH for the first floor. There is so much pipe, that the boiler pump cannot provide enough force to circulate the water.
