The main things are fuel and food everything else is relative think about what you use the most day to day transport fuel food this is where we are getting shafted the most nothing wrong with profit but needs to make economical sense not greed driven profiteering

But the price of fuel is mainly due to tax/duty. Far from being a "rip off", petrol is great value. The tax/duty is necessary to discourage people from abusing cheap energy and causing excessive pollution.

The cost of a bus or train journey often costs more than the cost of petrol!

Petrol prices need to rise much further to ensure that there is an incentive to make more efficient use of it, and an incentive to use public transport where possible.

I think my point is proven enough that we live in a society which is fixed to the point of a handful of conglomerates controlling the mass market

Why not setup your own drilling, refining, transporting and retailing company as competition?

    That does not wash...

What do you mean "that does not wash"? The UK has the lowest ex-tax petrol prices in Europe. Fact.

...look at the oil price even with the higher tax still a handsome profit, just because its the lowest in europe doea not mean we get a fair deal I dont understand why you would want to pay more than you should have to

Well, I don't understand how you can post a thread under the title 'petrol prices -ripoff britain' and not appreciate that the fact that UK has the lowest petrol prices in Europe demonstrates quite clearly that if there is any 'ripping off' going on, we're actually getting off lightly compared to the Germans.
  • Surely it's supply and demand, if you don't agree with the prices then don't buy fuel!
Oh, still stood at the pumps? Thought so
  • i just love the blinkered belief that the OP couldn't possibly be wrong in spite of the facts presented!
