Can anyone recommend things to do in Lanzarote/Costa Teguise that we won't find in the touristy books?
Also any lovely local restaurants?
Thanks

Costa Teguise is one of the most touristy places on the island, just short of Puerto Del Carmen. You'll find good restaurants just by walking around. Often the best are the ones without someone standing outside.
Lanzarote is pretty small, so the vast majority of the best things to see etc can actually fit in the Marco Polo travel guide. However, there are some great authentic local restaurants you can get to if you have a hire car, aound the port in Orzola and in the town of Yaiza.
edit: Forgot, don't miss out on a trip to Los Hervideros. It's a fantastic 20 minute or so stop. (click here)0 -
Oh no, you fell into the Teguise trap - there's not much there, it is touristy, so the majority of things there are touristy. You're best off, as Obviously The Best said, to get off the beaten track and head for some of the more authentic places on the island.0

We are staying for next to nothing in Teguise in an apartment belonging to a friend so merely using it for a base to see the island. DomRavioli your last sentence sums up the point of the thread so thankyou obviously the best - we will def head to those two towns and Los Hervideros.0

No idea if it's in the guide books (it probably is) but Cesar Manrique's house is well worth a visit even if you've never heard of him before - I hadn't.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
These are two of the best restaurants on the island. The first for lunch and the second for dinner. Both have Tripadvisor Certificates of Excellence.
Spectacularly good restaurant in the middle of nowhere on a near deserted beach.Has an original Cesar Manrique installation on the wall.
