If you don't have a phone how do you access their website in the first place?
, generally you use a computer to access it, although nowadays you can use a mobile phone to get online, the majority of people use a computer.

Marleyboy I think in trying to make missylou sound stupid, it's backfired on you!
I think missylou meant without a phone line how do you access the internet.
I wouldn't know how to access the internet without a phone line and I'm normally very good on this sort of thing!0 -

I dont know what your getting at, if you think its trying to make her look stupid, I guess it depends on the question asked, but if the answer has applied that affect I offer her my apolagies, as it is, she asked how, I answered, in what way do you mean backfired?? As in respect to yourself, have you ever wondered what a library or internet caf'e have to offer, you dont need a phone for those places either, but it doesnt take a genius to work that one out now does it?:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I find it no big deal. I use a generic 'myorders' email address and have no problem giving my address .. jeez if they don;t have it they can buy it from 101 resellers. Overall it is no big deal and just part of the electronic 21st century ... if it really annoys you then you always have the choice to shop elsewhere .. including in a real store where they will monitor your use of credit card etc.
.
I am not sure that accounts can be closed down willy nilly because companies need to keep records for something like 6 years for various purposes.

Erm.....Its called the internet
, generally you use a computer to access it, although nowadays you can use a mobile phone to get online, the majority of people use a computer.
I believe it is possible to access the internet from the comfort of your own home without owning a phone of any description.
All you need is a phone line and a computer. You don't need a mobile either.
As for companies requesting details, if the store in question asks, and i feel its trustworthy and good value then i'll register. Sometimes it's the only way to track your order. You can also receive offers of goods/services similar to the product you've purchased. I'm happy to register so i can track my orders, especially expensive ones.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -
What difference does it make really they only ask 2 extra questions (username and password) over what they would if you didn't have to register. It only takes an extra 15 seconds or so.0

Thanks for the posts everyone -- though I still stand by the fact that when I go shopping in the High Street, I don't have to acquire a username and a password to "enhance my buying experience". I arrive, I buy, I go. . . and that's it.
Online account sign-ups are totally unnecessary and unwarranted.0 -

I too get annoyed by signing up for accounts to buy one thing.
The only way to get them to respond to emails to close an account is to threaten the company with reporting them to the information commissioner. Sometimes it doesn't work until you send the company a letter by snail mail.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

While I agree it is a hassle I feel it is a necessary one. Some sites, do allow you to just make a purchase and for one-off buys from a company you might never use again, thats probably easier.
But with bigger sites that you are more likely to use repeatedly it makes much more sense. They can securely store your card details (such as amazon) so you don't have to go through the whole process again. For repeat custom it is a handy time saving device. I also believe it is not possible to properly encrypt your data if you do not have a secure login account through the website and as already mentioned allows you to track orders.Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0
