It's not excessive yet, especially given that 1st Sept is one of the busy new reg days. It should all be with you in the next week or so, at a guess.

They sent me a V11 for my old car - which implies that they haven't received the paperwork
It is just that DVLA don't use phones or emails to communicate with - I may need to write to them to inform them (again) - before 30 September ...

All you need to retax it at a PO, come the end of the month, is the green New Keeper slip the vendor should have given you. OK, you can't do it online, but...

I don't want to tax it - I am waiting for confirmation from DVLA that they received my paperwork (V5C) - informing them that I no longer own the car - and in the meantime, they have sent me a V11 (for my old car) !!!

Once DVLA have updated their records you’ll get a letter within 4 weeks confirming that you’re not liable for the vehicle any more.

The V11s are prepared several weeks in advance and held for posting, there is a fair chance of receiving the old car's V11 if you sell less than 2 months before the RFL expires. If you have proof of posting you have nothing to worry about.
