insurer not taken out money. Shall I call them

Hi Folks
Just a quick question.
I have recently extended my insurance for my car with the same provider as they offered me the best deal after a bit of haggling.
There was a bit of a computer issue where the total cost came out different to the individual policies as it was a multicar insurance policy so included 3 cars.
When I spoke to CS about this issue, the guy I spoke to said until they sorted the issue out they would put a hold on the debit of the renewal and he was going to call me back once all was resolved.
I got a call back from the same guy and said they would honour the lowest price which was great and once I agreed they said they would debit the money with the credit card details they had on file (which were correct) within a few days.
However its been about 2 weeks now and they haven't still taken the money, I suspect the guy may have forgotten to take the hold of the money possibly?
I am just thinking can I risk not telling them and get the insurance for free for the year or should I contact them asking when they will take out the money. No doubt if I do this someone savvy may pick up that the money should have gone out by now and get that arranged.
If 1 year down the line they chase for the money do I have any comeback?
Many Thanks

What sort of comeback do you think you would have?
Debts have 6 years to be collected after which they become statute barred. If they come after you in 1 or 2 years time just say thanks for the interest free loan.0 -
You won't get free insurance for a year. Once they realise they have not had the money they will cancel the insurance (hopefully after writing to you).
Get it sorted out, it is not worth the risk of driving around uninsured.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

If its their fault then they would be on exceptionally thin ice for cancelling without chasing for the money first.
Even if it isnt their fault they must serve notice for anything short of fraud etc.0 -
Enter your registration in to the ASK MID website.
See if your insurance is valid now.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
If it's direct line they seem to take an age to charge cards after the policy has started for some reason!!
Took them 4 weeks for my car insurance, 3 weeks for my home even though on the phone they said it had all gone through! Perhaps some only take an authorisation while they confirm the policy?0 -
You could call them.
Or....
You could keep quiet, but if you have an accident and call them to make a claim they will tell you that your policy was cancelled as no payment was made.
Do you feel lucky?0 -
I have checked askmid and i am insured.0

Perhaps they just don't put it through straightaway.
They will have an audit process anyway and if they have forgotten they will put it through at some point. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
