EDF warm home discount
Options
Hi all
does anyone know the closing date for applications for the whd with EDF energy?
I have this morning switched/signed up from M+S energy to EDF and the EDF sales person said that applications are still open and to contact their main customer services to apply for the discount after the call finished. I did this and was told that until I have customer numbers they cant do anything and wasnt even sure if i could apply during the switchover time period.
I have received the form from M+S to apply - their closing date is the 30th of september and that is when my fixed term deal runs out also (I got a letter of apology and £3.72 credit because they should have let me know sooner when my deal was ending)
If I miss the EDF deadline then i would have been better off staying with M+S and claiming the discount with them again, losing it in effect cancels out any savings made by switching. can anyone advise?

It doesn't answer your question but there are more details here. I would suggest giving them a call or using the live chat function on the website.

You need your electrical account number to apply, so you won't be able to apply during the switch-over.0 -
Thanks Bark01
I'll give them another call I think - the sales person really shouldnt have said I can apply for it0 -
an update just in case anyone else comes up against a switch with unknown or very close to the whd closing dates...
firstly I called EDF sales team back - asked them to confirm what the sales person this morning had said was right. they couldnt and also couldnt tell me what their whd closing date is, they gave me the number for the whd helpline - those who actually pay the moneys out.
the whd helpline said that the discount will be applied no matter who i'm with, but once i explained that i am claiming on low income and child tax credit status (student) she said ooooh. in which case each provider will have their own times and dates. they dont know these.
so back to EDF i go again, this time to main customer services and giving the chap a brief rundown of todays calls etc, he has assured me that as soon as i get my customer account numbers i can apply for the discount, it shouldnt make any difference if i apply during the switchover period because my circumstances are what they are and he would expect EDF to accept my application - its simply a matter of confirming the fact i qualify apparently.
the EDF chap said he will personally check my account tomorrow, make sure everything is 'live' and call me to confirm this so I can then apply.0 -
Core group
If you qualify for Warm Home Discount under the Core Group, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will write directly to you. They'll start writing to those eligible for the 2014/15 payment of £140 in September 2014. This will continue until December 2014. The aim is for all Core Group customers to be paid by 31 December 14. There's nothing you need do if you qualify under the Core Group. your account will be automatically credited with the payment.
Broader group
If you don't qualify under the Core Group, you can still apply to see if you're eligible under the Broader Group. You will, though, need to your supplier. There's an application form on their website as well as details of the conditions you need to meet. Broader group is first come first served and when its gone its gone - so apply at the earliest opportunity. At the initial application you will be supplied by a BOT with a unique reference number, nothing van proceed with a broader group application without first receiving this unique reference number.
My understanding as stated above is there is no fixed closing date for the broader group, only a point at which enough qualifying households have applied.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. the first customer service lady i spoke to after signing up said they get as little as 24hrs notice when it closes - i assume reading your info on the broader group thats because they dont know when enough households will apply?0

That is the case my friend, some energy suppliers will / may close months before others,. It will depend on when and in what volume people apply, and how quickly those applicants can be verified. data matching for the core group is done by the DWP and is automatic, for the discretionary broader group its a slower process.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Well, I've just started the process of switching from Scottish Power to Sainsburys Energy.
Before anything else, I telephone their Warm Home Discount Scheme dept (it's British Gas) to ensure that I was eligible under their criteria and I was told I could apply up until the end of the year. I have been given a switchover date for approx 25th October (assuming there are no f**k ups from either side) and will immediately apply then.0
