Spending money - how much cash to take/how much to spend on credit card?

Hi everyone, I'm new here!
I'm off to New York early next year for a special birthday (a lady never admits her age).
I'm saving up for my spending money and based on what we've got planned for the trip and the items I would like to buy while there, I have a good idea of how much I'll have/need. I wouldn't necessarily want to carry loads of cash with me though......
So my question is:
Would I be better off leaving the amount I've saved for specific items in my bank here, spend the amount on my travel-friendly credit card, then when I'm back pay off the card?
The amount I've got as general spends I can then take in cash.
Does this sound sensible?

For the US I would always go for plastic, and a small amount of cash - Don't forget to have a back up card0

And the good news is you've got time to apply for one of the recommended cards if you haven't already got one!
