can anybody advise, getting a new composite door, property is a Victorian mid terrace, surveyor has told me electricity pipe needs moving. utility company referred me to northern powergrid. have rang numerous times, can't get through, visited web site and was horrified at how much they could charge for this service. the pipe is in a bad place to start with. tried contacting CAB to no avail,am unable to get to my local office. can anybody tell me if I am responsible for the charge to relocate this pipe or are the utility company responsible. if I am it's going to be a very expensive door and I cannot afford it anyway!

Short answer is yes.
The changes are cosmetic and there is no other good reason for moving it.0 -
Normally , contacting Northern Powergrid is done through your supplier. I think you are wasting CABs time with this sort of thing. Northern Powergrid will do your work but they charge top dollar. Most people just drop the idea when they find out the costs0

Last time I checked electricity came down cables, gas comes in pipes. 😊IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

The power companies charge ridiculous amounts for this service, and there is not a lot that you can do about it.
I had a quote of approx £3k to move my electricity meter about 1 meter when I was having an extension done. Luckily for me the builder knew a retired electricity board engineer (who had the seals and stamps to reseal the meter) who did it for £500.
Not much help to you, but they have a monopoly on this work, and therefore charge a fortune.0 -

3k is very expensive, sounds like they were looking at renewing the whole service and undertaking all the excavation and reinstatement on site themselves.0 -

I've seen quotes from dnoS that are as little as 600 quid.0 -

Does the cable run through the frame of the door? Or a window frame?0
