Barrister or solicitor?

I had a similar relationship with my (wonderful) solicitor and ex was telling the most appalling lies which I thought the court would believe. My solicitor recommended the Barrister I used, and altho she was expensive (£3500 for two day hearing). She was worth her weight in gold. She made ex look very silly and basically he showed up his lies due to her questioning. Judge absolutely slated my ex in his summing up, but sadly even though judge felt it was a malicous case brought by ex, family courts rarely award costs! Now if I could just get him to admit to hiding money I may even get child support but not holding my breath, flipping CSA (but thats a whole new thread!!)
