Are aldi/lidl much cheaper than supermarket value?

I usually use one of the big 4. I buy a lot of value items and spend very little. Would love to spend less, though, if it's possible. Looking at aldi online, I am finding a lot of the prices are similar to value prices? Do you find it much cheaper, or only when you're used to buying branded items? Thank you :)

I find them quite similar to value prices, - but some things ca be cheaper in Lidi/aldi - a lot of it is trial and error.

may sound daft, but I've swopped some of my shopping from the supermarket, to the £1 shop and Home bargains.

Lidl /Aldi - I find the pre-packed gammon is about £2/£2.50 for 2 slices, yet like for like at Tesco £4 for 2. x

In general its around the same price as value, maybe a few pence more but the quality is more like a mid range big 4 supermarket range i.e even things like pasties that the big 4 would be awful would be ok at lidl/aldi but cost the same.

Aldi and Lidl are the only 2 supermarkets I buy my cola from, its not as good as it was a few years ago but its still far better than any other supermarkets just tastes like a flatter version of the real pepsi or coca cola

My grocery shopping is spread over Aldi, Home bargains and lidl with top ups occasionally from Morrisons. Although the Aldi and Lidl ranges are of a similar price to the other supermarkets the quality is far better. Things like tinned tomatoes from the supermarkets are much more watery for example. I also find Aldi sliced cold meats very good value.
The best thing is that you are not bombarded with lots of offers that are not actually a good deal

    Tesco Everyday Value Gammon Steaks
    (Approx 300g)
    £1.19
    one example
Teabags are 99p in aldi and 27p in asda.

your shop will be much cheaper in the big 4. have a look on mysupermarket, its really good to compare your shopping

A lot of the prices are the same as the supermarket's value ranges, but as others have said, much better quality.

Maybe make a note of the price you normally for stuff in the big and go to Lidl/Aldi and see how they compare.

Aldi's current tag line is "like brands, only cheaper". This is the comparison you have to make.

Ben and Jerry Ice cream. £3-5 a tub, Aldi equivalent £1.99.

Aldi equivalent not as nice by far.

Picked up 3 tubs of B+J in tesco yesterday as they're selling at £2.44.

B+J one of the few things on my "can't get in Aldi" list.

We find LIDL are significantly cheaper for their fruit and veg.

Their non UK brand stuff is good value but any of the "regular" stuff from uk brands is the same price if not dearer.
