Cost of bathroom extension

Options
Consider a kitchen which protrudes out from the main structure of a terraced house.

If the 1st floor bathroom was extended so that it was built out and covered exactly the footprint of the ground floor kitchen, approximately in what sort of price range would this cost if the bathroom was extended out by ~5 sq m?

It would be extended in brick.

Before you build out over the kitchen, you need to determine whether the foundations if the kitchen are sufficient to take a first floor extension.

If they are insufficient you would need to reinforce the foundations. Often the only way to do this is to knock the kitchen down and start again.

If anyone might also know the additional cost of having the foundations checked to ensure they are sufficient to take a 1st floor extension. Can this simply be done by a builder, or would I need to get someone else such as an engineer?

You need to find out the foundation requirements for a two storey extension in your area.

You then need to expose your foundations by digging down to see if the depth if them is as per building control requirements. A builder will do this, but you may need to get building control to inspect them.

Assuming the house was to pass these requirements, would anyone have a ballpark figure as to what it might cost to have the 1st floor bathroom extended over the footprint of the ground floor kitchen?

    A 1st floor extension of ~5 sq m.
