Income support and premium payments?

Evening everyone,

I'm just after some advice here, hopefully non-judgemental!

So my employment is coming to an end soon and I will be out of work. I am married and my wife gets carers allowance for my son who gets high rate of both mobility and DLA.

The jobcentre says we should apply for income support and I am looking to work part time whilst my son is at school so I can help care for him as he is severely disabled mentally and physically. We also have a daughter who is 6, my son is nearly 9.

I see as a couple we would get £113.70 as we are both over 18. But I see there are premiums added for certain people so can anyone advise what we would get and how much each premium is worth? Obviously we get child tax credits, CB and HB but it is just the income support monetary amount I need, just so I know where we will be financially whilst I look for work.

Apparently there is a family premium, a carers premium and a disabled child premium? Would we get these on top of the £113.70?

you would get carers premium BUT the carers allowance would be deducted as income,i thought family premium had been done away with not sure about disabled child premium,you need to run it through a benefits checker such as entitled2

Benefits for children are done via tax credits now. Income support pays money for you and your wife.

You say you get HR care/mobility for your son, have you also told HMRC that he gets the DLA as this entitles you 2 the disabled child element of CTC & if severe the severe element too. Apot £3100 & £1255 as well as 2x £2750 4 both kids along with fam elem £545 - they are payable in full as you'd be on IS. Thats £10400 just for tc's or approx £800/4 weeks or £200/week add IS £113.70 with DLA £81.30/£56.75 = £451.75/week - then there would be council tax/housing ben help & I'm fairly sure that premiums do apply to these, so you may not need to work. I hope you geet it sorted out quickly.
