1st Central Car insurance and coach drivers....

So we've just phoned up to renew our insurance and tell them that OH is now a coach driver, but they won't insure him because of his occupation!

Surely he is now a safer driver as he has passed additional qualifications in driving? and he's only driving the car to work and back, it's not like they are insuring him to drive the coaches!

Has anyone heard of this with any other company? Looks like our insurance premium may go through the roof :(

Yeah driving jobs can push up the premium a bit. He may have been on the road for 8 hours or so and then driving home in a different vehicle and maybe tired also.

Odd they wont insure him though. Did they make the mistake of you trying to insure a coach?

It's often due to the driving other cars extension on a policy which Insurers worry about the very very outside possibility that they end up having to pay a claim for a coach load of passengers in a vehicle he's driving on which the coach companies insurance has expired
  • Not sure about 1st central but Aviva won't allow DOC on anything over 3.5t
  • 1st central don't let the policy holder drive any other cars at all, not even in an emergency...

After trawling though all the comparison sites, we have found cover for the same price as we were paying last year, with full RAC cover and £60 back through quidco.....so i think 1st central have done us a favour :)

Unless they've changed again recently then for most of their clients over 25 they do indeed cover driving other cars

:rotfl: no :) we had a policy with them for a car which we took out last year. OH has just passed his test to be a coach driver and it coincided with the renewal date, so they were definitely insuring our car, not a coach :rotfl:

No-one allows it for just an "emergency". You either have DOC cover or you don't.

If he has it, then it will be clearly stated on his insurance certificate.
