Quote for rendering

Hi,

I hope someone will be able to help me. My wife and I moved in to our new home a year ago and it had damp, which we got sorted (as well as a number of other bits), but have nbow been told that it needs rerendering.

One company has come to have a look and said because it has Tyerolene on the outside it would be difficult to remove the entire render and cost ££££'s (as if the current quote wasn't enough!) to do this, but what they do is blast the bits that need doing, fix that so it looks the same and give the entire house a coating which covers it all for the life of the warranty.

Does this make any sense or am I just being ripped off? (I hasten to add I haven't signed up for anything).

I don't see why tyrolean rendering should be any more difficult to remove than any pebble dash or similar finish, they all can take time and it is likely to take longer to get the old stuff off than it is to re-apply whatever it is you are going for.

I used a specialist rendering company well known and trusted in our area, but I hacked off the old stuff to save money. (mine was pebble dash).
It took me a few days with a Kangol hammer, but I took the lot off, I don't like the idea of patching.

To add, I still have a tyrolean gun, I've done plenty of it in the past and again see no reason to treat it any differently to any other render.

The answer to your question is the standard reply, gets plenty of quotes to find the real cost to you.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • once patched it always looks patched. Lath or glassfibre mesh over this finish would be good and then usual finish though any damp already behind the existing finish will stay there,
