Tc2021

Anyone else got this letter(dated September 2014)? I called Tax Credit Helpline and it said on the automated system if you are calling re TC2021 you need to wait until October before they will speak to you!
I have not had any other letters despite it saying "we have already contacted you" on this letter.

  • Its relating to a previous overpayment on a previous ceased claim you may have held with them. Its basically to inform that the overpayment will be collected from your current award for Tax Credits. The reason for the automated message is that the alteration to your payments wont happen until October (if at all) and nothing can be done before then due to the system not updating the payments until then.

The issue is that I have never been "overpaid" or had any letters in connection to it! Not sure I can just wait for a month to get the further letter, I would rather sort it out now. Might just call them again tomorrow.

  • Its to do with cross year recovery Blondebubbles and apparently the collection of the old overpayments have not been set up or calculated (10%-25%) yet so nothing can be discussed over the phone.

In response to your good self Week, it would be pointless ringing tommorow as they really can not tell you a thing about it until the letter advising the amount (TC606 I think) is issued. Then you can call to disucss the repayment if its causing any problems.

  • Although on reflection, I imagine they will be able to view the overpayment amount and year it relates to on their systems before the letters are issued. The problem is that people will be calling to arrange or discuss repayment and thats what can not be discussed at present so to avoid people queuing around for nothing, they are being advised to wait until the 2nd letter is issued.

  • I think it relates to overpayments from old claims which are not currently being collected by a payment arrangement.
That's not the same as cross year recovery which carries the overpayment forward to the next year of the same claim.
The advisors can look at the overpayments but not talk about the collection until the payments are updated in October.
When they say "we've previously told you" that means they've sent an award notice, not a letter.
I'd sit tight for now given how busy the helpline is at the moment. Hopefully by October it might be easier to get through.
Anything I post on here is my own personal opinion, and quite likely not the view of my employer. My knowledge may not be up-to -the minute current, but I'll give you the best I can.
  • Probably not given if they've just sent all these letters out and due to lose staff very soon (if not already).

I believe the letters where sent out early in error. Although you are right regarding staff losses. Last week in Spetember is when the current load of temp staff leave

I have received tax credits for a long time(over 15 years) and still get WTC. I dont believe I have ever been over paid and have not had any repayment plans either. I fill in the renewal form on time with my income as on my P60 so I really dont know what this refers to. Can you email them for information? I would prefer to do it that way so I have a "paper trail".

My overpayment goes back 8 years ago.
Apparently I have been told that I had not signed and sent my declaration in time for year 2006.
I had appealled this previously - and heard nothing back and NOW they decide they want to recover the payments....
Such a shambles - and I had addressed this to them at the time.
    This is stressful!!!!:(
  • I've had one of these letters today. This follows a few months of receiving letter after letter from a debt recovery agent trying to claim £300 from us for a tax credit overpayment. This overpayment was settled years ago but they've decided to seek it again, for some bizarre reason. I rang the tax credits office today but was told that there is absolutely nothing we can discuss about it until they've sent out a new reward notice at the end of October. So I've filled in the online TC846 form (which I can't post a link to because I'm new to the forums) online, printed it off, and sent it by recorded post this afternoon. That's all I can do for now. It's their error. But, in my experience, getting some of the advisors to see sense is a struggle.

    Nuts!!

I received one of these letters and I rang this number 0345 302 1429 it is the tax credits payment helpline for overpayments/monies owed etc as listed on the HMRC website.

There they DID talk to me even though the tax credits helpline has a recorded message saying if you have received the letter they will not discuss it. They told me exactly what I owed as I didn't have a clue and I was also told that there was a note on the system that said they could not reduce my payments for some reason so the letter had been sent in error but seeing as I was on the phone anyway would I like to set up a payment plan, which I now have. I was also told that if they had reduced my payments it is completely negotiable so if the payments put you in a position where you are struggling you can call them to get it amended.
