Painting Melamine Doors

Can anyone please guide me with this. I am trying to paint some wardrobe doors (melamine) using Crown MDF and Melamine paint. I have tried using a foam roller, this leaves a bubbly texture on the door and do not see the glossy shine. I have also tried using a brush and that leaves streaks if I spread the paint too much and otherwise it is not consistent.
Can you anyone guide me as to the best way to paint melamine doors to get a good finish.
thank you

If you opt for a DIY solution in respect of the type of facelift you describe, you have to consider what your best end result is likely to be and make that your goal. A gloss finish, in my mind at least, requires a spray paint application in an environment that is dust/carp free. You might rub down and carefully roller reapply for a better finish (likely won't be perfect).
In not dissimilar circumstances, I decided on a painted solution. I accept that I didn't want a gloss finish, preferring instead to an even streak free finish (my goal). I opted for a satin (water based) solution and used a short pile roller giving a 'textured' result. Standing back, if you didn't know any better, the cupboards look 'shop bought'.
Expensive, but you can likely buy replacement doors (pre-finished). Not very MSE, I admit.0
