It became part of Northern Rock in 1994.
Not sure it will help you much though as this suggests you had a mortgage that ended prior to the Northern Rock transfer. This would likely mean you didnt have PPI as a typical 25 year mortgage would have been taken out before PPI existed. Although your bank statements will verify that or not. Records are likely to be limited, if they even exist.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Just go for it and see what happens0

What? Even if they had no ppi?addedvaluebob wrote: »Just go for it and see what happens0 -
What gave you the impression the OP had no PPI? They are just asking how to find the institution concerned so no other assumptions can be made.
Peoples reasons for complaint vary. I could complain that a block of Blue Stilton cheese has gone off, whereas someone else may enjoy eating it. Its personal choice.
If YOU feel you have reason for complaint, go for it.0 -

The society in question ceased to exist in 1994. So, the mortgage must have been repaid prior to that. A typical mortgage period back then was 25 years and remortgaging to buy new deals was in its infancy at that time. Nowhere near as popular as it is today. So, a strong chance the OP was with that lender for longer than a couple of years.
MPPI is a product of the late 80s but didnt really become common place until the early 90s. A 25 year mortgage that ended prior to 1994 would have been set up before MPPI was available.
If the OP doesnt know if they had PPI or not (e.g. its not uncommon for people with mortgages of that era to mistake MIG as being PPI, when it isnt), then what would the complaint be? First thing is to see if it was held or not. Then it is to consider if there is a reason to complain or not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Well yes, presumably the OP wouldn't be asking the question otherwise.:)
I imagine that the OP would be therefore obliged to make their complaint to NRAM - http://www.n-ram.co.uk/ppi - and that there is a pretty good chance that NRAM will respond by saying ' we have no records'.
The OP presumably would need to assemble the evidence that;
- PPI was paid
- the policy was sold to them by the NOE BS
- the reasons why it was mis-sold0
