Hi,

I was reading the thread about someone who had a car bump into the back of them and claimed the OP reversed...

Im getting a new car in a month and im thinking its probably not going to be a bad idea to get one of these as I will have some finance on it.

I would ideally want one that I can put near the mirror but is pretty well hidden as I know if I get one on the dash I will get out of my car and leave it and some scrote will break in and nick it.

I have found soume but they are about £400 - for £400 I would rather take my chances.

Head along to Dashcamtalk, this topic has been done to death here and those guys have vastly more experience.

I currently use an SJ4000 (£60), with a cheap Ebay suction mount (£10).

If you want something more automated, then your price goes up.

This one sits behind the mirror and is pretty unobtrusive. I paid about £80 for ours with the GPS enabled base. All I had to do was put a micro sd card in it.

    Opps forgot the link

Morning, google is your friend just google "dash cam".

£10 upwards, you get what you pay for in picture quality and memory though.

Also look for "Super Legend" on Amazon, looking about a tenner.

Techmoan is local to you, have a look at his reviews on dashcams on the tube. You don't have to be paying £400 for a camera, if you have an unused smartphone, then you can install a dashcam app. My phone will run over 4hrs from a charge on dashcam and is enough for any journey.
You will be able to get a decent dashcam for under £100 fitted properly (eg no chavtastic wires all over the dash and into the cigerette lighter socket).

Wires are "chavtastic", well that's a new one..... lol

There are no sub £200 dashcams which would last long enough to even consider a permanent wiring solution.

Every dashcam ive had, from the super cheap up to £300 has failed within 18months of use, I think it's mostly the heat from the sun, it fries them and if mounting in the windscreen there is nothing you can do about it.
Sure you could buy a silver camera, that would certainly help, but then it wouldn't be discreet anymore.

Its not so much a dash cam im after, I can find those. Its more the fact I want it pretty hidden. I dont think can wire it in as its a leased car. I do intend to buy it at the end but you never know what will happen in 3 years.

Anything black, mounted up near the mirror is going to be as hidden as it gets......
But you should remove it when not in use, even if it's hidden your still asking for trouble.

Something is better than nothing, if the device is fitted near the mirror, then they are pretty discrete, in fact depending on the car, you can buy rear view mirrors with cameras on them. , as mentioned in other posts, most are removable (not that I can see a market for 2nd hand dashcams especially the budget ones).
I'm not sure why someone doesn't offer a device where only the sensor is up in the windscreen area and the main electronics is elsewhere in the car.

ive wired in about 15 mobius cameras into a friends works vans, they are used at least 10 hours a day each for about 15 months now

    not one problem

besides most are micro/mini usb so if it did fail the same cable will more than likely work for other cameras

We've used the cameras about 7 or 8 times to get drivers out of things they didnt cause
