This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all
Bit dull and overcast here it will hopefully brighten up later like it did yesterday.
Off to work today and we have lots of clients today so its always a busy day but good fun and the day always goes really quickly.
Some salmon for dinner with new pots and roasted tomatoes onions and mushrooms, I roast the veg with olive oil and a little splash of balsamic vinegar comes out beautiful.
Did not order taps last night so need to do that tonight. I cant wait to have my phone back this one is driving me mad it takes me so long to send a text etc and I keep trying to use it as a touch screen !! :rotfl:
Have good days all xx

Morning All
Dull and overcast again today but dry so I'm not complaining. WM nearly finished so that can go out in a mo.
Judi - Big hugs to you, so much to think about. Loved the photo!
LW - How's the kitchen coming on?
tru - hope you feel better.
Hugs to those not feeling so good, hope today is brighter for you.
Got home from work and set to the painting, managed to get most of the walls done but the flooring had been delivered and left on the floor so I couldn't get the ladders round all of it. I think he's coming today to move it!
I have an netball umpiring course after work which I am dreading as it is supposed to go on till 6. Still have so much painting to do!
Not much else to report, hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Off to work in a few minutes , just having a bacon sarni first
Had a much better day at work yesterday than expected , I had a gap in my appointments of about an hour as someone didn't turn up and it gave me time to sort some stuff that I normally have to do in my own time :j
Not slept very well the last 2 nights , I just can't seem to nod off, I suspect it's because both DDs are off to uni this weekend , dd2 for the first time and I think it's playing on my mind as I will miss them so much . The house is upside down with all the stuff they need to take with them , I won't miss that lol
Hope all the poorlies are feeling better
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning :hello:
I didn't read properly yesterday, just flicked through to see what people thought about what I'd said. Thanks everyone xx Don't get me wrong, he works and I don't. So I do see it as my job to do the housework. What I don't think is right is him thinking I'm here to clear up after him just because I'm home. In my mind, there's a big difference. But when I'm told I'm being harsh because I left his mess (his words – “Did you really leave my mess? That's a bit harsh”), it pees me off. Plus he'll blame everyone else for his actions, whether it's at home, work or church – it's always someone else's fault. Everything is unfair (to him). He will deliberately leave things to the last minute, making me late, even though I've said I'll get the bus and he's insisted on driving me. Course, he doesn't actually insist, he'll say “We'll go in the car if you like, it'll save the bus fare and it'll be quicker”. If I get cross about any of this then he says I'm too sensitive  I'm the least sensitive person I know – for example, I like blunt, straight answers to questions I ask, even if it's something I don't want to hear. I know exactly what's going on here and a friend confirmed it a while ago (she didn't know what I was thinking, just what was/is going on) so thanks for that – you know who you are
Well that was a bit of a ramble
So, on to normalityI'm waiting in for a parcel today so will have to find things in the house to keep me busy til it arrives. I aim to be very busy with work things when I get back from my holiday, so I want to get those niggly jobs (that I've been putting off!) out of the way in the next couple of weeks. I'll get the kitchen curtains washed today and will give the blind a good scrub.
All the paper I shredded a couple of weeks ago has been thown out. I store it in big bags in the chicken shed, I spied a couple of mites in one of the bags when we cleaned and de-mited everything. I'm going to have to shred as I need it from now on, which is annoying but better than offering a free holiday home to blood sucking beasties

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy, dull and overcast.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early. DS1 gone to work.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes, jacket potato and veg. I remembered to get the sausages out of the freezer for tonight’s dinner, so tonight we’ll be having sausages, mash, veg and gravy.
Had a phone call from my work yesterday and they are coming today for a “home visit” – I’m led to believe it’s the “norm” and that it’s part of work’s system when you’re off sick, but DH is convinced they’re checking up on me – they may well be doing so. My foot is still quite bruised and that is the only part of my foot near my toes that is visible from the plaster – so they can take a look if they feel the need! This visit is going to be my immediate boss, and then I’m told I “have” to have another visit from the Department Boss and HR (Personnel). All this even though I’ve provided them with a sick certificate signed by the Doc I saw in A & E when it was X-rayed and discovered it was broken. I’ve worked for this employer for over 15 years (not so long ago I got a long service award) and for most of that time never had any time off sick – up until a couple of years ago, I was the only person in our team that hadn’t had any time of sick. I will, of course, do what’s needed as I don’t want to put my job in danger as we are constantly being restructured due to the finance cuts. I’ve “heard” that our department is having a restructure (hence why I think I’m getting a visit) but am led to believe it may not affect my level of workers, but that is this time round – but don’t know this for definite - we’ll definitely be looked at again in the future at some point – hoping I get a clearer picture from my boss. Sorry if I sound a bit miffed – I do appreciate that procedures have to be followed but there is (I’m sure other work places have the same) a few people who completely take the p*** out of the system with how much time off sick they take, which is something I have never done, or ever intend to do, they seem to get away with it.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning, had a quick skim read yesterday. I hope those who are not getting much sleep have ahd a better night last night.
tru my OH can be a little the same. He leaves everything at his !!!!!, but then so do all off us in this house. I'm a sahm so it's my job to clean up. BUT there's times I have asked him for help with the dd's or the dogs (asked, not told, as that would make me a nag : )) and I get the usual response 'I work 60 hours a week, blah blah blah' It gets on my nerves. He sees home as his sanctuary (rightly so) where he can switch off (again rightly so) and do nothing (not rightly so), whereas I sometimes see home as my workplace and would appreciate it if someone else made tea, walked dogs or anything! What I have started doing is having a clock off time, after dinner after its been cleaned up, I won't do any housework, it's my time to sit and do nothing.
Little rant there, but I do love OH with all my heart, he works very hard for us to have a comfortable life and some luxuries.
Day off today from the aninmal sanctuary, but I still have 3 dogs to look after, I'll take them off to the big forest for a really long walk 4/5 miles for me, double for them as their off the leads
I've been trying to stick to a budget this month and writing down where all my money goes. My budget has been blew out of the water buy the unexpected car bill. I'm still going to try really hard. If I can stick within it I'l be out of my overdraft. Then I would like to try and save £100 month and have my bills 'payed' at the begining of the month.
One washing on the line over night, it's grey here but I'm hoping it'll brighten up. I have another 2 do, bedding. If I have everything done I may have an afternoon of cathcing up on my tv and cross stitch. Dinner will be lasange, shop bought : / I've become lazy with cooking. I go through phases of loving to cook and cooking everything from scratch to hating it and just heating things up.LBM 04/10:j

Morning everyone - mid week is always a 'down' time. However I'm not at work on Friday or Monday so I'll get through.
The new rugs arrived yesterday and they are lovely, can't wait to get them into my home and see them in place.
Had to have a new bulb put in the car yesterday, only cost 71p for the actual bulb, no labour charge. That was a lovely surprise though I wish the dealership staff weren't so passive aggressive with customers.
It's 'Bloody Scotland' weekend coming up. Nothing to do with the referendum but a crime writing festival which is held every year. Last year I thoroughly enjoyed it all and this year had bought tickets for loads of events but will now be unable to go.Will be turning in tickets to talks being given by Stuart McBride with Mark Billingham, Katie Reichs and so on. Gutted! If the tickets can be resold I'll get a refund otherwise it's money down the drain. Doubly gutted.
So, no OS here today. Just work and then back to Glasgow.
Hope everyone has a happy Wednesday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a very dull day outside and quite chilly too. This was the first morning I gave thought to having the heating on but luckily the moment passed. I'm actually up and dressed this morning as hopefully my friend will be coming over this morning for a coffee.
I'm feeling a lot better today, thank you for your well wishes, but I'm going to just be pottering around the house today. I am actually going to attempt home made faggots after my friend has gone. I've made them once before and they were so much nicer that Mr Brains' version as these ones actually had a meaty texture. I've got the recipe from Frugal Queen's blog, well worth a look for some excellent thrifty recipes.
Hubby and girls decluttered off to school/work and I've got a cup of tea beside me so all's well with the world. Tomorrow I have a meeting with my CMHT worker and a lady who will be my key worker I hope. She actually knows my eldest daughter but is obviously bound by confidentiality. I remember meeting her before in my other life that I had as a mental health advocate and as I recall she was lovely so I am hopeful she will be able to help me especially with my difficulty in leaving the house.
Tru, I'm so sorry you are having difficulties with your partner, I don't really know what to say except you are in my thoughts. You seem like a lovely lady who deserves respect and although you are at home whilst he works that does not make you a skivvy  .
Well that's all my rambling for today. Hope everyone manages to have a great day whatever they are up to. Hugs sent out for everyone who wants one, take care xx0 -
Morning all:hello:
Horrible looking day out today.
Few bits and pieces to be done round the house today and it won't be a NSD as have the weekly shop to do.Other than that it will be a quiet enough day with the LO's.
Tru- I know what you are going through. I used to do exactly the same thing but realised its about having respect for myself and the people and the space we all share. That was well before I was an OS'er! Hope it all resolves itself for you
Hope everyone has a safe and happy OS day:wave:NOT BUYING IT 2018!

Hi everyone,
I'm still not sleeping well - so annoying.
Tru and others, I know how you feel, When the kids were small I used to say to DH that I was the nanny - I did the lion's share of housework but I didn't see any reason for him not to pull his weight when needed. Now I stay at home again I don't do more than basic housework at weekends and sometimes tell him he's in charge of meals. My late M-I-L would be turning somersaults in her grave!
More sewing for me today, I'm trying to finish a baby quilt for next Thursday. I wish I'd not chosen to complicate matters by needing the fabrics to be oriented in one direction, it's very time consuming.
Hester, any news on DD?
Have a good day.0 -
Good morning everyone. I hope someone's got the sunshine because it's greyer than an elephant's armpit here. Hugs and thoughts to those who need them.
Today is full of little bits and errands before I'm back at work tomorrow. I've been the temp PA for a medical professor/ clinician ( a lovely bloke, but I truly hope that I never have to meet him as a patient as he is an ICU consultant!) His new PA started this week, so I'm just going to be there to ease her in. Then I'll be back at the in-house agency at the University next week to see where they're going to send me next.
This morning I've been refilling the freezer with chopped mushrooms, peppers and onions, as I finally twigged that my little food processor that I got from BHF last year would do the job perfectly. It came with a whole box full of attachments but no instructions, and I felt a bit like a failed audition for the Krypton Factor until I got it working without harming anything that wasn't vegetable matter. And it all goes in the DW! Not bad for a tenner. It's at least 25 years old but in fine order. I think it must have come from a house clearance.
I've got a couple of kilos of apples to sort out from the tree near the Spar shop. They will need cooking, so I think a couple of crumbles or pies may be in order for later in the winter. The tree is still loaded, but there's only so many I can reach by myself.
Anyway, I'm off to meet DH for lunch in a while. There's a pub near his office that does a decent 2-4-1 deal midweek, so it will be nice treat, then it's off to the library to hunt through their DVDs for the weekend.
Have a good one, people. It's so nice to be back here.Surviving the ups and downs of life with DH
