well I've done my first half-marathon distance and survived dehydration! I did listen to some of you, and at the 16 km mark, did pop in a petrol station to buy a bottle (I must have looked a state as people queuing invited me to pay before them!). I then drank and hide the bottle on the way, and picked it up on the way back for another drink before disgarding it in a bin.

It worked well. I was worried about getting back into the run after the stop (even for a couple of minutes) but it was ok. I am not sure I would have finished it without the drink (and gel) so I think it was indeed the right thing to do. Glad I took a bit of cash with me as I didn't set to go that far when I took off.
  • Hi I absolutely swear by nuun hydration tablets - we were on holiday last week and I didn't have any and ran 4.5 miles and got the biggest headache after - they really are brill at rehydrating you after exercise and actually good for days when you feel thirsty/hangovers too lol! - I've just posted a competition link for some that I have just entered and you get a 15% discount too so worth a try - go to manvfat DOT com and it is on there hope that helps :)

The High5 electrolytes tables are amazing for rehydration as well, you might need to go through a few different ones to find the one that works.

Also they are great for hangovers.

Just don't chew them for energy. That was, er, interesting! The lucozade and Dextrose ones are fine for chewing though.

Nope you put them into water, they don't have calories in them but replace lost salts and electrolytes. Energy drinks have the same but have 100 - 200 calories in them which is an extra 1 or 2 miles to run.

have found the camelback to be the best solution for me as I do a loop, or you could find a run that had a drink fountain on it (not great for your time though)
