More the pitfalls of not reading/understanding the ts & cs before ticking the box.
T's and C's make no mention of the payment in full of add ons at cancellation. Just the cancellation fee. Checked their website today - nothing there either.
Anyway, by the by. Agent phoned me today, pleasant lady. Waived in full all charges associated with the cancellation and the add-ons, and will receive a small refund on the pro-rated element of the insurance (couple of quid).
The comments have been both helpful here and I felt, a little judgemental, which is disappointing, as it deflects from the intent of my post as a warning to others re the modifications piece.
I had no intention of a cancellation. It was to be a change of vehicle. It was my thorough reading of the T&Cs in respect of modifications that led me being unable to change the new (old) car onto the policy, as I had no way of verifying which were, or were not options over the base spec when the car was new. It was that inability and caution over their T&Cs that cornered me into a cancellation and thus the punitive charges.
So thanks all for the helpful comments.
And it wasn't cheap insurance. It was a long way from the cheapest.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

The policy booklet does set out what happens when you cancel, and does clearly state no refunds for all add ons except the breakdown cover which is refunded pro rata (see page 25):If you choose to cancel any of the additional benefits you included within your main policy cover after the 14 day period, with the exception of breakdown assistance cover, we will not refund any of the premium you have paid for this cover and the full annual premium for it will still be payable.0 -
You got a good result. Especially when they do have it in the ts + cs!

Fair enough - I looked under the "Small Print" bit of their website.
Yes, I was content - there was no resistance or difficulty in getting it waived - she accepted I had been painted into a corner because of their modifications conditions and had no option but to cancel given the issue of the modifications declaration. She did say that while they ask that, if a claim had arisen, and modifications were found, they would have just added the information to the policy before processing the claim. That's not something I would like to rely on.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
