I'M SO ANGRY
I just got back off holiday to find a credit card statement saying my £5 payment off my Mark One Credit Card had not been recieved so i have been charged a late fee of £20 grr.
I phoned my bank account to check if the chq i sent had been cleared its not so presumably the royal mail lost it :0( I always pay by online banking but as i was going on holiday and had not recieved the statement i simply pulled out an old statement and sent a chq in to ensure they got it... :0(
Now they have charged me a late fee of £20.
What can i do i have not phoned them yet i thought i'd better chck the situation with the chq first. Should i just go ahead and pay it or is there something ican say to prevent me having to pay this £20 fee when i phoned them?
Any advise please help i need to call them in the next hour.

The OFT ruling on credit cards is that they are allowed to recover their costs and they put a £12 fee on this.
However, in my experience, if you have a good record of payment and phone and complain they will cancel the charge.
If you call and they insist on continuing with the charge then you can and should ask for the fee to be reduced to £12 in line with OFT guidelines, and they should credit the £8 difference.
My gut feeling is that if you complain long and hard you'll get the total charged removed, although they will almost certainly try and block you initially. Keep complaining, threaten to move the debt and be persistent. But above all else you will get more sympathy by keeping cool and being nice and polite. They won't help anyone that gives them grief and are more likely to help those that are pleasant but firm.
Good luck0 -
Sorry i can not let that statement stand. The OFT stated that £12 was the upper limit they would accept and that any higher and they would take regulatory action. IT IS NOT the amount that they are allowed to charge. You can claim the whole amount back as it is unlawful.
OFT is not CONTRACT LAW. (please do not confuse legality with OFT ruling which has not stopped people reclaiming 100% of the charges back from CC companies.)
If you get the £8 back you have been robbed.0 -
