Parcel2go and Hermes awful experience and legal help needed

Hi,

I just wanted to share my recent experience with parcel2go and seek for some similar experience and some advice on how this can be sorted positively.

I have recently sold a laptop on ebay (270 pounds) and decided to post it with parcel2go. I chose myHermes 2 days delivery with a signature, but the laptop never arrived to the customer. After chasing it with parcel2go live chat, I was told that they contacted Hermes and can confirm that the parcel is lost. The question is, how the parcel with the size of a relatively big laptop box can just disappear. It was good looking almost new Sony laptop and I am sure it was stolen. Can`t see other logical explanations, because the last tracking was "Manifested for delivery" which means that the parcel was put into the van. It means that the van driver or someone who had an access to the van in the day of expected delivery would know where the parcel is.

Anyway, the main question know is how to claim the full amount I am loosing from parcel2go. I have not paid for additional insurance cover, as I do not believe we should to, as we are already paying for the delivery and expect the appropriate service. If courier accept the fact that they can damage or lose the parcels they should cover their negligence themselves, but not from our pocket. Of cources parcel2go is offering 27 pounds basic reimbursmenet for 270 pounds out of my pocket and I am not accepting this.

I wanted to ask, if someone had similar experience and can advice if this can be brought further to the small claims court and be won.

Thanks

Why on earth did you feel that you didn't need to pay for insurance ? You knew before sending that you could pay a small amount extra and get covered for the amount it was worth. You deliberately made a choice not to do this because you did "not believe we should to, as we are already paying for the delivery and expect the appropriate service."
Therefore you should expect compensation to the lowest level. You'll have to refund the buyer out of your own pocket.
  • If you posted a diamond worth £1 million and a stone worth £1 in separate packages, would you expect the courier price to be the same? Or would you expect to pay more due to the greater risk with the diamond?

You've paid to send a stone but expect compensation for a diamond. Good luck, but I can't see you winning.

(That said, I really wish these cheap courier companies would insist on the correct 'insurance' cover. If you're sending a valuable item, you ought to have cover for the value of item you send. Just ask the value alongside the weight and size, and price accordingly).

You've been about as incompetent as the courier who you are criticizing...

Might not sound nice, but unfortunately, its the truth...
  • Take the 27 pounds and be thankful they are offering you the full payout you are due rather than trying to mess you around.
  • I wanted to ask, if someone had similar experience

Doubt it. Nobody with any common sense anyway.
if this can be brought further to the small claims court

    yes course it can.
    and be won.

    Not a chance.

Have you not considered theft as a possibility?

My sister was a van driver once.
She had to go to a rough area and the usual vans with bars on the windows was not available.
She wound the window down as it was a really hot day.
Needless to say a pracel was stolen from her van.
Yes she should have closed the window each time, but I guess she left it a few miuntes to walk up the path and knock on the door.
No need to say anything nasty as she paid the price by losing her job.

Anyway what I'm saying is that other things can happen besider the courier stealing the item.

The reason you have to pay extra is because it's deducted from the price because some people don't need it.

Your choice so your fault I'm afraid.

I guess my sister is quilty for not shutting her window on a really hot day but she's not guilty of being a thief.

If you'd have gone through Hermes direct you would have got nothing - they do not cover laptops.

I would never send a laptop this way.

Good luck in court - you will need it.

Looks like Hermes nor P2Go have done anyhthing wrong.

Ive always paid for insurance when sending expensive items.

I will put it down to user error.
