Sell you more of the bank's offerings
  • Tries to con you into thinking you're a name rather than a number to the bank.

In theory.... the first one I had left the bank a year before I joined it. The second one, that technically is still my RM, says she is a branch manager and was since before she was appointed to me and that she doesnt do RM work.

Cannot say what they actually do because I've never had a conversation with one but in theory they are a single point of contact but in practice they try and flog you stuff

No I don't. Sounds like it might be best that way for me :)

    not a lot :)
They are suppsoed to be the main point of contact in the bank.

I've had ours call me a couple of times when they wanted to check that a particular transfer was authorised, or to check that a signature on a cheque was valid.

The only time I've found ours useful was when I hit a dead end trying to respond to a letter the bank had sent us (the bank sent the world's vaguest letter, and then refused to give any addition details to allow us to respond.

Yes, we are in the process of changing banks, now.

  • we have one for our business a/c with Natwest, nigh on impossible to get hold of them & even if you do, it's more than likely that they've moved on from that role & nobody will have any idea who your new one is...
  • Every time I have had one, they change to a different one every time I go in LOL. I have never found them useful.

With HSBC, we've found the RM (we have the same for business (Business/Commercial) and personal (Premier) to be excellent, and generally working to our needs.

We have noticed in the branch shuffles, the named person has changed several times in the last few months though.....

I remember a good few years back I rang my bank about something and one of the security questions they asked was ''who was my relationship manager'' - me ''I don't have one''. Apparently I did, it was news to me.
