Life insurance new illness question

I took out life insurance with critical illness cover in 2007, I have recently been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. It's not a illness that's on my cover. My question is do I have to tell insurance company I now have a life long illness, despite not claiming or the fact I was diagnosed after cover taken out.
I know its probably a really stupid question but can't find the answer. And will my premiums go up lots??

It's not a stupid question at all!
There is no need to update your insurer as to the change of your circumstances as the underwriting is done at the point of application and is a snapshot of your circumstances at that time only.
As an aside, it can be quite difficult for people with ulcerative colitis to obtain critical illness cover so I'd more often than not advise them to make sure the existing cover stays in force.0 -
Thank you very much for that, I think my insurance is quite high at £53 a month but I guess that's as good as it's going to get now :-(0
