problems with used car 2 weeks after buying
The car was bought from a dealer 2 weeks ago and came with a warranty though it only states it covers the engine and gear box. Two days ago the car overheated (though I'd only topped it up with coolant a couple of days before) + the garage its been taken to has stated that the thermostat housing needs replacing + are wanting to charge £170 for the pleasure. Do I have a leg to stand on with going back to the dealer + asking for them to pay/asking for help towards costs? If I'd had the car for a few months I'd understand it was down to me to pay but 2 weeks!?!

If the coolant was low when you checked, there's a chance the issue was present upon purchase. Take it back to the dealer and give them the chance to put things right.0

Agreed, you have to give the dealer the chance to fix it, but speak to him, he might be willing to arrange something with your garage. Just don't let him fob you off, it is his responsibility to fix it.0

Depends.
age mileage description and price0 -
Definitely speak to the dealer as if you have anything in writing saying the car has no problems then they should fix it for you.0

If the coolant is low, it may even have head-gasket issues so definitely log it with the dealer. The dealer should fix it or if you can't get it there, either collect it or pay for repairs. But you have to inform the dealer and ask what they will do about it.0

Don't take these replies as gospel op, without a lot more info nobody is in a position to offer any meaningful advice0

What age and price of car?0

Thanks for replies, I've spoke to the dealer and he agreed to have the car towed to his garage + he's having it repaired at no cost to me. Such a big relief!0
