Hi - I wondered if I could ask for some advice...
My husband was made redundant a few months a go and will be starting a new job in late august- which at first will be part time - but not sure for how long. I haven't been able to work for a long time due to a disability and am on DLA. I am at the moment looking into having a very small business of selling my crafts on- line through my own website,to make a bit of money.. as I cant get out and about on my own. Obviously I don't know how or if this will work out, but am concerned about money/benefits. As my husband will be working app 18 and a half hours a week we will need to top this up...if I have a small business will that mean that we cannot apply for top ups of various benefits?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks...

do you have any figures that you will be earning, some benefits can depend on income levels, if you can give these figures I can look them up for you0

Hi - Thanks for replies :-)
I can't imagine that I will earn above £4,000 really - if I do i will be a miracle...'A real friend is the one who walks in,

£4,000 does that include your husbands income0

No - unfortunately we arent a 100% yet of hours and income yet as being discussed at head office...at the mo it looks like £19,130 pro rata for about 18 and a half hours roughly then my little business of selling my flower photo cards so difficult to know how it will go, it could be good, or might not make much at all... hope that helps a little to explain where im coming from..

I can't find ought in my cab handbook about dla and income. I would advice you to visit the cab and they will be able to look it on their system. It does say you can claim it when your working but it gives no figures0

DLA is not assessed by income, it is assessed by disability, so this benefit should remain unaffected by you taking on work. If you are able and well enough to work then you may have your DLA revised downwards, but that would be if they decide you're not as poorly as you used to be.
Your business will need to be declared if you are receiving any means-assessed benefits, such as income support, as any profits you make from the business will be counted as income. It may even remove your entitlement to income support altogether. You'd need to check with the DWP.Build a man a fire and he will be warm for a day.
