First Direct Returned Direct Debit - Credit File

Today, two direct debit payments were attempted from my First Direct current account to two distinct First Direct credit cards.

Although there were not enough funds to cover the direct debits, I transferred funds into the current account same day.

When I checked later in the day, the direct debits no longer appeared on online banking and I had to phone up First Direct to pay the bills manually.

First Direct will not be levying a charge but I was told that the returned direct debits would affect the current account section of my credit file. How much of a difference is this likely to make?

Comments

  • When that happened to me, I got a late marker against both my credit card and current account.

In my case, I didn't pay til later in the week so fair enough.

Sounds like you should be ok, but I would message FD to check.
