Car insurance - ownership

Hi

My fiancee has a hire-purchase car from Nissan. I'm trying to sort out her car insurance for her but as I don't have experience of HP I got a little stuck.

Her name is on the V5, so am I right in saying she is the registered keeper?

Am I also right in saying she is not the legal owner as the finance company currently owns the car?

You are correct you aren't the legal owner till the HP agreement ends.


Insurers usually happily accept that you are the "owner" when the car is being bought by way of HP, though some will offer that as an alternative to "owner"

Thanks, but don't quite understand the last part.

I'm considering going with LV if that makes a difference?

Won't be a problem - insurers would be cutting out an awful lot of business if they wouldn't cover cars being bought on HP!
