Hi guys,
I've just bought a brand new Palm Treo 750v smartphone off e-Bay. Boxed, complete with cables and locked to Vodafone.
My problem is that I can't get my PCs (desktop running XP Pro and laptop running Vista) to recognise the phone. I've installed the appropriate software on both (ActiveSync on the XP machine and Windows Mobile Device thingy on the Vista laptop).
On both machines I have the same problem, I plug the phone into the USB and it beeps (and starts to recharge) but neither of the computers can 'find' the phone.
I spent some time on the phone to Palm support, hard reset the phone and nothing changes. The guy at Palm claimed it might be because I don't have Outlook installed, but that doesn't make much sense to me because it should still be 'found' by XP or Vista.
I've downloaded an 'unlock' code but can't use it because it needs to be connected by cable and the system says it's not connected.
Before I start tearing out my hair and reselling it on e-Bay, any ideas?
Michael

Just a guess - you don't have any network drives mapped to
/E:/? I've had problems with devices where windows has tried to map them as E, even though I had originally set a network drive as E, remapping this as X solved my problem. Of course I may be way off

My desktop has a 'mobile device' icon on My Computer, but it's mapped as Z:/ so that can't be the problem.Retired in 2015.

Palm e-mail support has suggested that the cable might be faulty and I should try another cable. It's a proprietary connection so not able to use anything I have, so does anyone have a spare one they could send me? I'd be happy to pay postage....Retired in 2015.
