contactless card abroad choosing to use local currency?

in Credit cards
I'm just back from a trip abroad, using my Nationwide Select Credit Card, which has no loading on the visa Europe fees.
Each time I made a transaction, the terminal allowed me to choose to pay in GBP or say "no" and it would revert back to local currency. Out of about 20 transactions, one museum just took the money in GBP without asking (that is by the by, but may be relevant to my question).
I noticed some shop assistinant waving my card over the terminal, I guess for those customers who use cards, most of them have contactless. My card isn't contactless (don't think Nationwide do contactless credit cards, just debit cards). So would I get a chance to choose local currency with a contactless transaction, given the "default" is to use the shop's bank exchange rate conversion to a GBP transaction (which is invariably worse than the Visa Europe rate).
Presuambly someone has had this on holiday over the summer - do you get to choose local currency when doing a contactless transaction (no PIN to type in to the terminal)?

Yes you should be able to.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0 -
Would the contactless function on a UK card work abroad anyway?
(Don't know the answer)0 -
I paid by old Egg contacless abroad and transaction went in local currency. Didn't try it again as I use my Nationwide card 99% of time abroad and it isn't contactless.0
