Re-rendering - will we get our money back?

Options
My husband and I bought a fixer-upper about a year and a half ago - and finally moved in at the beginning of this year.

We've always seen our stay here as relatively fleeting, as it's only two bedrooms (and no room for a dog!).

However, my husband is now working from home, and our family is growing, and we're really getting anxious to get out and get somewhere bigger.

The interior is nearly finished, but we haven't touched the back of the house. When we had the survey done, the state of the render and of the concrete paving was called up. Basically, the yard is one giant tripping hazard, and the render is blown in so many places that I'm a bit surprised there is still so much of it left. In general, the whole rear exterior looks kind of crap, although not that different from other houses on our terrace.

With all the fees that come into buying another house, I just want to make sure that we use our money wisely. In short - if we pay out the money to have the back of the house re-rendered, will we see it back when we sell the house? Likewise with redoing the concrete.

Thanks :)

If there are problems with the house it will detract from the value of the house. So, yes, in theory you will see your money back. In reality, that would depend on what you paid, whether that accounted for the required work and if house prices stay the same or rise.

Could you do some extensive filling and then repaint?

    - although it won't last long, for us it was a quick/cheap fix which did wonders for our cracked render (and we sold it very quickly too).

It might not get you more but it might help it sell faster.

We will need to our driveway soon as it's falling to bits but we know we will sell in the next few years. It won't get us any more money but it will help it sell faster.
