Legal and General Life Insurance !!!! Up

So I took out life insurance with Legal and General via Direct Line: Life Insurance, Critical Illness cover and £60 worth of M&S vouchers. Monthly payments via direct debit.
I filled in all the relevant paperwork when it arrived and returned it on time.
I noticed a few weeks later that 2 x direct debits had been set up for legal and general. I called to query and was told one was for life cover and the other for critical illness. OK I thought, makes sense.
I asked the helpful chap to remind me what the monthly payments would be. Worryingly he first quoted my annual premium as the monthly installments before (after me having a heart attack) he corrected himself.
So off I went thinking all was fine... until today.
2 x direct debits left my account for the full annual premiums.
One has bounced meaning I will be charged by my bank.
The other has left me with £0.91 in my bank account and no money to get to work tomorrow.
When I telephoned they stated that they could not help as the payment department had 'gone home' but fully admitted it should have been monthly installment.
I have been promised a call back at half past 9 tomorrow morning. I start work at 9am.
Should I take this further? What a nightmare!!!
Oh, and my M&S vouchers haven't turned up yet. Insult. Injury.

Use the dd guarantee to get the money back in your account tomorrow
Phone your bank ASAP
Then make sure that you get reimbursed by l & g any charges you have had to pay over their error0 -
I never thought of the guarantee.
I guess if they prat around in the morning I will give the bank a call.
I think I'll have just enough petrol to free wheel it into work!
I'm jut gobsmacked at he lack of help they gave.0 -
Use the dd guarantee if you need money urgently
L & g won't get it to you tomorrow0 -
Will the bank require proof that the amount taken was incorrect? As this was the 1st payment there is no precedent for a payment amount.0

No
They must take your word.
If they don't immediately agree to you getting a refund tomorrow ask to speak to a manager and make sure he appreciates you are using the dd guarantee which is clear on your rights0 -
Thats great!
Thank you for your help!0
