First state pension payment is understated

They are not doing people out of "what they are entitled to" as the date of entitlement has always been from the payday following the SPA date.

Like lots of things it is not widely known but I believe it is in the leaflets you get when claiming. It certainly isn't logical but that applies to many things in life. On the other hand - it only happens once.

I suppose my point is that the widely held view is that you get a state pension from a certain age - in my case 65.

But that isn't what actually happens.
  • Imagine if it was a monthly benefit rather a weekly one. Odd days less than a week is one thing, a whole month???

....and its even more complicated with SPA moving from 60 to 65 for women and onwards and upwards for all eg my wife's SPA is actually some time before her birthday!

Do they charge the full NI contribution for that week?

Ah well - no doubt if Scotland votes 'No' and they get all the cash and powers they have been promised then at least people in Scotland will be better off - probably a state retirement age of 55 - to go with free student grants and elderly care and ......
  • If they vote no then they wouldnt get state pension at 55 as pensions is one of the areas that they have said remains with Whitehall isn't it?
  • Maybe - but they could opt to pay a pension earlier than the UK 'standard' age, funded by their own tax raising plus the money they get under the Barnett formula (which the three party leaders have just guaranteed even though it has been out of date for years and very generous to Scotland)

But we are going a bit off track .....

Mmmm .... don't think I quite said it wasn't fraud ie doing people out of what they are entitled to - because I think they are.

Anyway - as a resul.t of this thread, maybe others will know about it in advance - which I didn't :)

I doubt it, as you didn't read the other 10 threads about this in the past either lol.

This isn't the first time this has come up, and yours are not the onl.y wee feet to be stamped about it ;)

They may have had titles that were hard to understand, as was yours so may not have come up under the terms you used to search.

But it does come up. When people get their first payment and are angry s you were.
