Santander ppi brickwall!

Like most on here who have had years of loans, credit and store cards I have decided to re-claim ppi myself as opposed to using a company. I have had some success but mostly failure so far, looking to get a little insight from those who have had success from Santander.

I was Mis-sold on the basis that nothing was explained as to what it was nor that it was optional. If anything I believed that the Insurance was required to have the credit card approved. Yes it was my negligence not to follow it up for years however I am one who rarely opens the dreaded statements before filing.

Background info:
Opened Debenhams chargecard 7th January 1999.
PPI supposedly taken out over the telephone 26th March 2001 (on a non-advised basis).

First letter 21st July 2014: I Stated that I was mis-sold – Response received 30th July stating I had to fill in questionnaire and supply any relevant information I had.

Second letter 5th August 2014: Questionnaire filled in and sent back with supporting evidence that during the time ppi was sold to me I was indeed a student at the time and ppi would never have applied to myself.

Have received a rejection letter today basically stating that I took the insurance out over the phone, it was sold on a non-advised basis. I did have the option to cancel within the first 30 days. Working under 16 hours per week they would have required evidence of this at the time. Because I have no recollection of ever agreeing to the insurance nor the illusive phone call where I had supposedly agreed to such an insurance, I’m struggling to find how I can fight this case as it was over 15 years ago now. Luckily my hoarding nature has prevailed and I still have most stalemates in the loft.

Now I was hoping not to have to go down the lengthy FOS road but it looks as if I’m going to have to. But first want to know what I can write back to Santander as a final rebuttal?
