Help/Advice with Android tablet volume

I have quite a few DVD's as mp4 files and listen to them on my Nexus 7. I really struggle with the volume on an aeroplane. I have used an app to boost the volume and I have tried various noise cancelling head/ear phones but the maximum volume is just about audible. Is there any way to add something that will boost the volume?

Would require a rooted phone .
See Nexus 7 XDA forums Viper4Android or the sound config file modification posted .0 -
The Nexus 7 is louder than most phones I have come across, I suspect you need to apply a volume boost during the encoding process if it isn't loud enough on playback.
If you do want to disregard what the nanny state says is an acceptable volume level, then you'll have to root it as suggested by JJ and either amend the volume config file yourself or replace it with one that is already done.
Note that tweaking the DAC entry too much will simply result in distortion being produced at all volume levels.
PS
I take it when you are encoding the DVD's that you are making sure the 5.1 sound is being converted to 2 channel stereo?Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car

I have this problem with the odd video that has been encoded with too low a volume.
My solution is to us MX Player (free on play store) to watch the film, then set audio decoding to software (click on the music symbol top right of playback screen and tick 'use s/w audio decoder').
You can then crank the volume up sort of twice over, first the normal volume levels up to 15 but then it goes on to software amplify the sound up to a setting of 30 if you keep cranking it up.
On a half decent device it causes no performance issues and has never failed to make a movie loud enough for me.0 -
+1 for MX Player if rooting/modding system files isn't your thing, although I do believe the free version flashes up adverts every now and again.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car

Thanks for all that. Seems a decent amount louder now.
I thought I was rooted but I am now. Viper4Android installed.
Funnily, I also noticed that the picture was better/smoother when I change MX Player to 's/w video decoder', 's/w audio decoder' has given me more volume as well
Looks good - thanks0
