Lloyds - Confirm your details to keep account active

I have just been sent a letter saying that they are going to restrict access to one of my accounts and make it dormant. They give me two options:
1) Keep account open, go in in person with photographic ID etc, or
2) Close account - go in in person with photographic ID etc.
There is 41p in the account. I have not used it for ages because it's interest rate has reverted to virtually nil after the bonus period has ended and I have since opened other accounts. I have about half a dozen other old accounts in a similar position, but as there is no on-line mechanism for closing unwanted accounts I have just left them.
This is ridiculous. I have other active accounts - if they need to verify my ID why don't they just look on their files?
I am tempted to do absolutely nothing, and just let them keep the 41p.
Is this a new policy?

Hi Clifford_Pope,
Depending on what you’re specifically advised in the letter, there may be a way to resolve this without a visit to branch.
If you've been advised that your account has now become dormant due to 3 years of inactivity, then I'm afraid you'd need to pop into branch with ID in order to reactivate the account.
However, if you're advised that the account will become dormant within 2 months, transacting on the account in any way (for example, transferring a pound in & out from one of your other accounts online) will be sufficient to keep the account active.
If you no longer have use for the account & would rather close it completely, you can visit any one of our branches or put your request in writing to the following address. Please include the account number/sortcode & instructions for any remaining balance as part of your request:
Lloyds Bank
PO Box 1
BX1 1LT
I hope this helps.
