  • I've just rang for the electricity and thats with eon. Could someone else try the Compare prices section on the above link to see if it auto selects the correct one as it auto selects the correct one on the electricity for me.
  • That's pretty bad from xoserve, I've always found them to be fine.

99% chance the gas is either with eon, or BG. I would try ringing them next.

    Hi All,

We've just moved into our new home and took a photo of all the meter readings. How do we go about finding which suppliers the old owners used in order to ring them through?

    Thanks

Just thought I'd pop on with a quick heads up nabberuk.

Now you know we supply the electricity, if you let us have details of the move we can set up an account for you.

We'll make sure the old account is closed down and a new one set up from the day you took over responsibility for the property.

It's great you took a photo of the meter readings. If you tell us the readings, this will help keep things accurate as well as making sure you're not paying for energy used by the previous owner.

You can phone the details through or use the Home Moves section on our website if you prefer.

If you phone, though, we'll be able to tell you if we supply the gas. If we do, we'll set this up as well.

Hope the move went well and you're settling into your new home.

  • Thanks Malc, tried to ring last night but after waiting for 20 minutes i gave up. Will try again tonight.

xoserve came back with the following:

"I have been advised that the Meter Point Reference Number for your property is not connected to a supplier on our systems. Therefore you will need to contact a supplier of your choice to provide you with gas for your property."
  • Sorry about the long waiting times nabberuk. I've just checked and the waiting time for our Home Moves section is about 6 minutes at the moment. Not sure what they'll be tonight though.

If better, try the website. Contact details for Home Moves are on there too.

Drop an email with the details to the address in my Profile if you're still struggling. I'll be happy to set the account up for you.

Sounds like the gas is what's known as a Shipperless Site. This is where there's a usable gas supply and meter but it isn't registered on the network.

As xoserve says, you'll need to contact a supplier of your choice and ask them to set up an account to supply the gas. Choose the best one for your circumstances.

    Hope this helps.

  • Whats the process if for instance we would like to go with another company despite being connected to yourselves at the moment.
  • Hi nabberuk

No problem. All you need do is contact the supplier of your choice. They'll take over the electricity. This usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks.

In the meantime, we'll continue to supply your electricity. Best to stay on our standard tariff during this time. Probably more expensive than some of our other products but it doesn't have any penalties for changing supplier.

If you want them to take on the gas as well, tell them it's currently shipperless as per the xoserve reply.

I'd pop your details on one of the independent comparison sites. This will list out all your options. Choose the one best for your needs.

    Hope this helps.
