My local council tell my wife she has been put in the support group

My wife has been battling to get from the wrag group into the support group for about a year, she was placed in the wrag on the incapacity changeover, she put in a mandatory reconsideration request straight away for her claim to be looked at again which took them a year to complete ( not an appeal ) as they wanted a WCA carried out which ATOS took an age to send an appointment ( we must be the in the minority of pestering ATOS and the DWP weekly by phone for a WCA to be carried out ) In the end we asked our local MP to complain to the DWP and surprise surprise a WCA appointment appeared as if by magic about two weeks later, the doctor on the WCA even changed his mind about doing a physical examination (which he said he would do at the start) due to the evidence provided and talking to my wife at the WCA.
Anyway a week or so after the WCA I was on the phone to the council tax people who informed me there was a change of circumstance and that my wife was now in the support group, amazed they get to know this before she does !
It goes to show don't give up your fight if you are not being placed where you think you should be especially when you have so much evidence.

  • Local Councils get the information daily via the ATLAS system so a Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support claim could be updated and letters sent out before a claimant has even heard from the DWP.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

There we are then thanks for the explanation, it pleased my wife greatly, so does one contact the council tax team when awaiting results for the dwp ? seems far more efficient !

i was also told by my council that i was in the support group.
i hadnt had a reassessment ( ESA50 or WCA) so i wasnt even aware that they were looking at my claim.
my ESA increased to the support group and i still havent received a letter from the DWP telling me that i am in the support group 8 months later!
i'm assuming they decided to look at my ESA because i had a raised award for DLA... but who knows as they work in weird and mystical ways ;)
