If the job is being done properly then it won't be just the belt, it will also be the necessary drivetrain components that keep the belt in place (eg, pulleys & tensioners) and quite probably the water pump as well.Have asked 3 up to now, prices between £216-240 inc vat, seems a lot of money just to replace a belt!
.
Factor in a good couple of hours labour and all of a sudden your £220 is peanuts for the work being done.
FWIW, I,ve never seen a belt let go but I have seen plenty of tensioners and water pumps fail in my time, and that is when the engine is normally written off.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

Cambelt isn't the same as the alternator belt. Theres a few hours work involved. Seems competitive prices though."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Spoke to 3 garages, first one said no, trade plates don't cover insurance.
Second one said same then said wasn't sure.
Third said no problem my, (garage), insurance covers it.
So 3 different answers from 3 local garages!
Actually, no, they're all the same answer - and they all agree with the very first reply you had here.
Trade plates only replace VED. Since you're taking the car for a pre-booked MOT, no VED's needed, so the trade plates are unnecessary.
The garage, would, however, have insurance to allow them to drive any vehicle in the course of their business, so your lack of insurance would not be an issue.0 -
Trade plates may prevent the vehicle being pulled in the 1st place. If they were pulled taking it in they will just say its under their trade policy and being taken for an MOT.
I had a garage put their trade plates on a vehicle i was test driving. And they didnt accompany me on the test drive either.
Not sure if they wanted me to steal the car?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
