Appreciate there is a flaw in my reasoning if I say iWeb is as ok as Halifax Sharedealing. Just as there is a flaw in your argument if you list P&G's products to illustrate why companies should operate with multiple company names (as product names don't change company names).
I would still draw a serious line between a company like Halifax operating under a new brand (iWeb), and a company like Parmenion spawning Self Direct Investments spawning Wealth Horizon spawning who knows what.0 -

I think the big difference is where a company tries to hide their association with their other names. Most that do so are because they don't want anyone to find out about their past history. Ones that just trade under different names don't seem to have that issue - does anyone care that RBS & Natwest are brands in the same group?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
But they would consider launching a new budget phone or tablet under a new brand name if they wished to enter into that market - reason? Consumer snobbery. That's why the budget Heinz baked beans have supermarket own brand labels on them.
How does this explain that a tiny UK company called Parmenion needed to launch Self Direct Investments which needed to launch Wealth Horizon? And who knows what other companies they launched.
I don't know about you, but I am quite happy to bin a 49p tin of no-name baked beans if I don't like their taste (if I was tempted to buys them in the first instance). Not so sure I would entrust tens or hundreds of thousands of my money to an outfit that has absolutely no track history in the market but operates with multiple identities.
But why do I bother warning people? You are all grown ups, so if you think Wealth Horizon or one of their other incarnations is the place to put your investments into, go ahead. Though before you do, just ask yourself why none of their multiple incarnations figures in any of the platforms/broker lists you can find on credible MSE posts, in the broadsheet financial columns, on candid money, on monevator, or any other credible source you could think of. Could there be a reason?0 -
It explains that you cannot automatically assume a company is not legitimate solely on the basis that it sells under different names, which is what you asserted when you wrote: "Any company that feels the need to start trading under a different name has lost their way and is trying to hide something."How does this explain that a tiny UK company called Parmenion needed to launch Self Direct Investments which needed to launch Wealth Horizon? And who knows what other companies they launched.
Well I've sort of inadvertently done that by investing through II, who changed their nominee account provider during my transfer, but that is beside the point. No track history is a valid reason for concern. Operating with multiple identities in and of itself is not.I don't know about you, but I am quite happy to bin a 49p tin of baked beans if I don't like their taste. Yes, but it isn't because they are using different trading styles to market their products. But why do I bother warning people? Incidentally, has anyone else noticed that Self Directed Investments is based right next door to Hargreaves Lansdown in College Square, Anchor Road, Bristol? Coincidence?
