working on a zero hour contract?

Just looking for some advice, my partner works at Mcdonalds on a zero hour flexible contract. He usually does get quite a few hours a week and has the option to cover peoples shifts etc if he wants.Just wondering if we would be able to claim for working tax (we already get child tax). Lately he has been working around 25 or more hours a week. What would the way around this be? Would he have to make sure he is working 24hours a week and what would happen if he works more one week? So confused as to how they will work this out
Many thanks in advance :rotfl:
