Animal Friends...beware of terms and conditions

Hi
Just a few words of warning about Animal Friends and their "sharp practice" when it comes to settling vets bills.
Our dog was unwell a cople of months ago when we discovered he had a lump on his right front leg. We initially though it may have been an abcess due to an infected cut but quickly found out it was a tumour - thankfully it was benign.
Out Vet quoted £260.00 of which we had to pay £99.00 excess, as agreed on policy. However, because of the nature of the surgery, it was necessary to return to the Vets five times post-surgery for new dressings and observation of healing process.
We found out this weekend that Animal Friends have refused to pay the full amount as a clause in the policy - NOT highlighted at time of policy purchase - was that for any dog over 8 years old - our dog is 12 years old - we have to pay policy excess AND 1/3rd of claim costs!!!, thus leaving an outstanding bill of £91.00  .
I know T and Cs are there in black and white but I believe Animal Friends behave poorly by burying this "trip up" clause in their paperwork.
So, BEWARE OF ANIMAL FRIENDS - ONLY FRIENDLY TO THEIR OWN POCKETS!

I'm glad your dog is on the mend.
Either the company put this is their contract terms , or they didn't.
Their website has all the policy wording for every policy, it seems very transparent.0 -
I would hardly say that the clause was buried in the paperwork.
It took me a couple of seconds to go onto their website, get a quote and click the link to the policy details.

tbh I think most pet insurance companies have a similar clause - I'm pretty sure that when we had a petplan policy for our aged moggy, not only did we have an excess to pay but a proportion of the remainder as well0

But you agreed to the terms and conditions which they set out....
Or did you (foolishly) not read them before signing?0 -
Most pet insurance is the same. I pay the excess plus 20% for my 9yo German Shepherd.0
