Nationwide FlexDirect Question

Having just opened a Nationwide FlexDirect Current Account as a new Nationwide customer, I've noticed that there is nothing in the overdraft agreement letter they've sent confirming a 12 month fee-free overdraft.
Do I understand a fee free overdraft to mean that if I borrow any of the arranged overdraft money, I will not be charged a penny for the first twelve months. Or is there a sneaky little catch?

Yes. And I could have applied for more but went for £250. It was an online application,
I phoned Nationwide today and they said it's part of their introductory offer. I said a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on and they suggested going into a branch and someone putting it in writing on headed paper.
I get the impression that the branches frequently get "dumped upon" by badly trained, inexperienced, lazy call centre staff. I know what it's like as it happens to us in our store (I work in retail). Call centre staff often make up all sorts of rubbish to get rid of customers. The branch then deals with the fall out.0 -
I have the FlexPlus with a £2,150 overdraft but the first £100. Is fee free, this also wasn't in the terms but they do send out overdraft confirmation letter advising that the first £100 is fee free0

My experience of Nationwide Call centres is nothing like what you suggest they maybe like.
They have always been very helpful and far more knowledgeable than most branch staff.
As for your overdraft question its all in the account terms and conditions that the first 12 months is fee free. It even states it on their website, so it not that hard to find out the information for yourself!!

You seem to have a bit of a chip there that's all. I would hate to work in a call centre and was frustrated at the time I made the post, although I know what it's like to be expected to be answerable for something the company has or hasn't done.
I recently complemented a BT call centre member of staff to their line manager for going the extra mile and the Manager was taken aback as 9 times out of 10 people only complain to Managers.
I am well aware of the website - thank you! By its nature, unlike literature, a website is a live, changeable and non-permanent medium. It may be difficult to outright prove the existence of the information seen if the website is altered at any point in the next 12 months. It would be even more difficult to prove that it was available at the time the account was opened.0 -

No the clue is in the (Dr) bit of my id!!!
There's no chip at all if you can't be bothered to read what it says on the website and the terms and conditions of the account, then its your problem not mine.
Everything is clearly stated in the T&C's, if people read them more then they wouldn't have to ask half the stupid questions they post!!Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
