On the same principle, OP, you could look at it a bit like going to a restaurant and refusing to pay the bill because you had "already eaten the food". The claims company worked on your behalf, at your request, to win the settlement - and now you have to pay them for the work you asked them to do.
I think you are going to have to face up and pay them. Perhaps you can do it in instalments?0 -

When did you sign the agreement? if it says that you need to pay the fees then it does not matter what they did or did not do in the past0
