Anyone crafting for Christmas Fair?

Thanks for sharing, meg. They are lovely.
I (after a few drinks on holiday) agreed to make some items for my grandaughter's Christmas Fair. Now I am getting into a bit of a state to be honest.
I am not after making a profit for myself although it would be nice to recoup my expenses. I think I have to pay £10 for a table, which is fair enough. I thought to just donate the stuff I make but then someone else who has paid £10 for a table might end up being given the stuff for their stall and therefore benefit rather than the school.
Now, I say profits but, to be honest, I reckon I must be super slow or something, e.g. I made one of those little Christmas pudding knitted covers for a Ferrero Rocher. It took me ages and I noticed you can buy 2 on Ebay for £1.50!! I realise that I can't charge a realistic price in terms of time taken but I sometimes wonder if it is all worth it or should I just make a generous donation, lol.
Anyway, I am sure I am doing the right thing. So far, I have crocheted some little tree decorations (or gift tags), a little teddy bear and a couple of these bags:

I will also make some of the candy cane sleighs that were on here last year. But what to charge? The cost of the sweets or more?
I will also make some felt gingerbread men and some other bits in felt as they are quicker than my knitting or crocheting. Maybe it is just me, I don't know.
So, I too would appreciate ideas of things that will sell but don't involve me in too much stress. My other grandhild wants me to make stuff for his fair as do various clubs I belong to.
My husband is ill and I feel guilty spending too much time on crafts although it is relaxing (when I am not stressing, lol).
Sorry this sounds a bit like a rant and certainly a bit disjointed but I welcomed the thread to explore what other people intend to charge for their crafts.0 -
Thank you for that link it has some good ideas, My DGD is doing a tombola so I don't have to worry what to charge, just make sure we have enough prizes but really want to keep the overall costs down.
Have made some card stockings to hold a few sweets, and reindeer food
in boxes want to do snowman soup in cellophane cones.
I am aiming to do 10 items a day so they must be things that are quick to make, like the snowman poop in the photo, just buy a pack of 4 tictacs £1.00 and stick a label on, got labels for free off the net.
A popular thing last year when we did it was just a bottle of nail varnish
in a small organza bag and a tag that said for your Mistletoes. the nail varnish was a cheap joblot on ebay. The most popular was the Santa sleigh with a chocolate father xmas and sweets. I have diecut 10 o0f these ready to assemble, but don't want to buy the sweets until nearer the date so they are fresh.
Sorry to hear your OH is ill hope he gets better soon.
Will share photos when I get more done.Slimming World at target0 -
Someone I know did a school fair and made up little packets most of them containing a two pence piece. In one of the packets was a £5 note. She did it like a lucky did for 50p a go and made over £70. I'd have to add a few sweets or something else personally to make them more worthwhile, but if you are really stuck for ideas and want to cover costs for other items you've made then adding this to a stall might be a good idea. You could theme it up.0

Thank you that's a great idea, I agree about the sweets I think I would feel really mean if a child had a go and only got 2p. I will definely suggest this to my DGD.Slimming World at target0

Someone suggested Bookmarks are a cheap and quick make and I found these cute snowman joke ones at Activity Village. they do lots of different free printables.
I have printed off and laminated 10 of these this morning and am really pleased with them. Only about another 100 items to go:rotfl:
