Hi There,
I switched to NPower in January for their fixed cost energy prices.
Since July they have been marking my credit file with non payments when I pay each month, successfully, by standing order, which they have confirmed.
I wrote to them on 17th August; no reply still.
I've spoken with them 3 times. Each time they have confirmed this is an error and it will be corrected.
I have emailed another 3 emails, both through their complaints forms. No response.
Experian have now written to them. As I Cc'ed them into an email for Npower.
In response to Experian really helpful email they also emailed NPower; who wrote back and said they cannot correct it as they are looking into this. Which is very different to what they say to me whilst apologising.
I am now at a loss how to get this corrected and what to do as they are useless.
Any information would be great.
Avoid NPower at all costs! This has affected my credit file and seems impossible for them to just get it corrected.

Unfortunately this situation is becoming increasingly common, and is a result of Experian and the others managing to bribe the utility companies to supply the data, so blame Experian as much as NPower. Having said that, NPower are the absolute pits. I make no apology for having described them in previous posts as 'filth' and 'scum'. It's a good job you're not in the process of trying to get a mortgage (you're not, are you?) because this would cause you enormous problems.
If it's not sorted quickly you should contact the Information Commissioner's Office and report NPower.
NPower should be banned from reporting anything to the CRAs, and the CRAs should refuse to accept data from them. The QA systems of Npower are not up to the job. Why should they have the ability to ruin people's finances like this?0 -

Agree 100% - it's an absolute outrage that companies can provide bad data which has such an impact on a person. As has been pointed out, this would cause you a massive headache if trying to get a mortgage and it's not even anything you've done.
I'd absolutely inform the Information Commissioner's Office and write to Experian to indicate the error on your credit file - send them proof of payments if you can.
Good luck getting it all sorted!0 -
I would suggest that n this particular case the Energy Regulator may be the better place to go? They probably have a whole department just for NPower and have recently investigate their billing operations and found them wanting.0

If you had paid by dd each month you could have saved all this hassle. However no excuse for their appalling behaviour.0 -

DD is generally better (cheaper) when dealing with energy companies, but with NPower it poses a particular danger (I know there's the DD guarantee) and I can understand people not using it with this company.0 -

Hi there,
thanks so much for all the replies and info.
I do pay by DD each month.
They have called me from executive complaints since I wrote to the MD there.
They said all will now be deleted.
Instead of this they cleared the electric account and showed as paid then added a gas account and showed as defaulting!
NPower seem clueless and should not be given the rights to show up in credit files....
