Switch from Scottish Power to FU - how long does it take

Hi all

I am thinking of switching to FU from Scottish Power. In your experience, how long does the switch normally take?

Just wondering whether I would have time enough as I will be away from 9Dec to 29Dec so would not be able to provide meter readings during the period.

Their prices are much cheaper than SP...I know that it is always a risk to switch...

Replies are appreciated

3 to 6 weeks is the usual time scale quoted .

Frying pan and fire spring to mind...
But you should have enough time to switch, if you are in a position to leave SP now without significant penalty.
If you haven't done so already, use some comparison sites with your actual annual usage in kWH to see who gets recommended. Then calculate what you will actually be paying and read any reviews or feedback on your preferred supplier.
More hassle, but dual fuel contracts are not necessarily the cheapest nowadays, so you might want to consider going to separate suppliers for gas and electricity.
Look at the cashback offers for switching as well.

My experience: Took 38 days from application to transfer 'complete'. However 100 days later I'm still waiting for a refund of my outstanding £300 credit balance from Scottish Power. Suggest you transfer in winter when your credit balance is low and make sure you cancel your Scottish Power direct debit because they incorrectly continued to bill me after the transfer date - until I cancelled the DD manually via my bank.
